Smoke Detectors & Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Installation, Repair, Maintenance & Replacement

Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are designed to alert you when too much smoke has filled a room or potentially dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are reached within a room or building. They play a critical role in protecting both life and property.

Without a properly functioning smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector, you could be putting family members, colleagues, or pets at risk of reduced health or even death. At GAC Services, we install, repair, service, and replace smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in residential and commercial properties throughout Maryland.

Installation, Repair, Maintenance & Replacement

Known as “the silent killer,” carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause sudden illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, carbon monoxide is found in combustion fumes, meaning it is a by-product of fossil fuel combustion. Mild carbon monoxide poisoning can cause shortness of breath, nausea, and mild headaches, while long periods of exposure can lead to unconsciousness or even death.

Some common residential and commercial appliances that produce carbon monoxide include:

  • Gas ranges
  • Gas heating systems (furnaces)
  • Cars and trucks
  • Stoves
  • And more

To protect against carbon monoxide poisoning, it is important to:

  • Schedule routine heating maintenance in order for a certified HVAC technician to inspect all fuel-burning appliances at least once a year.
  • Hire a professional HVAC contractor to inspect and clear any appliance vents and chimneys of any blockages, cracks, or leaks.
  • Never run a vehicle in an enclosed space (e.g. warming up a car in a closed garage).
  • Install a carbon monoxide detector that meets federal and local codes and jurisdictions.

Don’t wait until it’s too late—contact the professionals at GAC Services for carbon monoxide installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement in Maryland.

Our Smoke Detector Services

Installation, Repair, Maintenance & Replacement

Did you know that an estimated 50 – 80% of fire-related deaths are directly related to smoke inhalation? And according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), research shows that advanced building materials for residential and commercial buildings can cause fires to spread more rapidly than ever before.

Smoke detectors should be installed:

  • Inside every bedroom and outside sleeping areas
  • On every level of a home or commercial building
  • At least 10 feet from a cooking appliance
  • On the ceiling or within 12 inches from the ceiling

Do not install smoke detectors near any windows, doors, or ducts where drafts may affect your smoke detector’s operation.

Our professional electricians are trained to properly install, repair, replace, and service commercial and residential smoke detectors—meeting government codes and jurisdictions.

Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector FAQs

Where is the best place to put a carbon monoxide detector?

Carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and is found with warm, rising air. This means that carbon monoxide detectors should be placed on a wall about five feet above the floor. The detector may be placed on the ceiling, but do not place it next to a flame-producing appliance.

How many smoke and carbon monoxide detectors do I need?

Each home should have at least one carbon monoxide and smoke detector on each floor; one in or outside each sleeping area; and one in the basement.
